In 2003, it was not imagined that the entrepreneurial initiative of Sérgio Romildo das Trevas Santos to visit rural properties in Sant'Ana do Livramento-RS and Rosário do Sul-RS to personally carry out the purchase and sale of hides and later of wool would be result in the creation of a large exporting and importing company.
With the significant increase in the company's activities, it was necessary to acquire the current headquarters and its own fleet of trucks, in addition to constant investments in infrastructure and innovation.
Currently, Barraca Branca Lã purchases wool, hides and skins throughout the territory of Rio Grande do Sul and is one of the largest wool exporters in Brazil, working with the commercialization of wool washed in tops and with the classification of wool raw.

knowing the wool
The use of wool as protection and clothing for man dates back to the stone age. Cave paintings and primitive sculptures indicate that in the Ancient Age man had already discovered that wool fleece was already warmer and softer than the skins of other animals, realizing that wool is the oldest natural animal fiber used by man to protect from low temperatures.
Wool is a tough, strong, yet flexible, non-flammable, elastic, kink-resistant fiber that is easy to care for and does not lose its shape.
With antiallergic, therapeutic properties and protection from UV rays, it is a sustainable raw material.
In addition to being ideal for use in winter, wool can also be used to create fabrics that work as a thermal insulator with the ability to keep the body at a temperature up to 8 degrees lower than synthetic fabrics, in addition to being a product with excellent waterproofing in humid climates.
Therefore, it warms up in winter, helps to lower body temperature in summer, and keeps the body dry in wet weather.

The wool and sustainability
Currently, much is said about the importance of sustainability in the textile industry . In this sense, it is essential to highlight that wool can be considered an environmentally sustainable raw material because it is extracted naturally, since it is necessary to squirt the sheep at least once a year for health and animal welfare reasons.

Furthermore, it consumes fewer natural resources in its production and leaves no environmental traces when composted, as its natural fiber allows its entire recycling and use. In addition to garments and handicrafts made from wool , lanolin extracted from sheep's wool is used in making cosmetics such as soap, shampoo, fabric softener and makeup . Lanolin is obtained by washing raw wool, and its use prevents this product from being released into the environment, as it is an ecologically correct action. Finally, it is important to note that raising sheep and making handicrafts in |ã have a positive impact on the local economy through income generation, acting in the activation of a productive chain that respects the environment.
